DefenseReview (DR) has been covering the Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy (AD) Blackside custom Glock-type pistols for a few years, now (starting right after we first saw and handled them at SHOT Show 2015), and for good reason. They’re hands-down our favorite custom Glock-type pistols, and the ones we trust the most. AD president/CEO Dave Pavlick is an exacting individual, a driven perfectionist, if you will. He doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to quality and performance, and we dig that about him. Anyway, the latest AD blackside gun we got to view and handle is the new Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy AD Blackside 19MC (Mayhem Carry) compact 9mm combat/tactical pistol, which sports a Mayhem Syndicate Compensator Mk2 with accompanying AD threaded (black-nitrided) barrel and very strong/durable “Quick-Lock” captured detent locking system. The Quick-Lock detent locking system is modular in the sense that it will also be the mounting system for muzzle cans (silencers/sound suppressors).
The AD Blackside 19MC is essentially Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy’s most badass little carry/combat pistol package yet, and DR’s pretty jazzed about it. It’s pretty slick, especially since it also sports AD’s new, awesome E2 (Extreme Environment) stippling/texturizing for improved grip and weapons handling, DR’s favorite Glock trigger system, the Arsenal Democracy AD SWiTCH Trigger (for Glock) trigger group/system with short reset, a Trijicon RMR (Ruggedized Miniature Reflex) Type 2 mini red dot sight combat optic, co-witnessed suppressor sights, and a custom-shaped extended beavertail grip tang (which we love). The SWiTCH features an instant on/off trigger pull with no take-up, yet is still extremely strong/durable and safe.
The SWiTCH is also drop-in, so you can drop it right into your factory Glock pistol, and instantly up your shooting performance (and cool factor). We should perhaps note that the AD Blackside SWiTCH Trigger on the AD Blackside 19MC pistol was the best-feeling SWiTCH trigger to date, as Arsenal Democracy’s tweaked and improved it a bit. It felt fantastic. It’s really smooth and crisp. AD really nailed it. And, according to Mr. Pavlick, it’s about to somehow get even better with the AD SWiTCH Trigger (for Glock) 2.0. So, can’t wait for that.
Editor’s Note: The AD Blackside 19MC pistol doesn’t come with a Trijicon RMR optic as standard, but it’s slide does come cut for the RMR, to be mounted later by the customer.
Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy prefers to utilize a Gen-3-style non-captured single stainless steel recoil spring (round, not flat) an Melonited stainless steel guide rod assembly and “buffer indent” for NAVSPECWAR-type maritime/waterborne operations, as it allows for fast, easy cleaning after being submerged in ocean saltwater environments. AD claims that their noncaptured recoil spring/guide rod/buffer indent sytem reduces recoil and is smoother-cycling than the standard Glock factory recoil spring/guide rod setup. WC Wolff and Sons (Wolff Gunsprings) makes AD’s recoil springs. AD can also ad maritime firing pin spring cups to their pistol packages for maritime and over-the-beach ops.
Now, full disclosure, the Mayhem Syndicate Compensator Mk2 DR played with was a prototype in the white, not the final production black-nitrided (salt bath nitrided) 416 stainless steel version, but it was fully functional with regard to the Quick-Lock captured detent locking system. It threaded on, and then locked into place nice and easy. Easy-peasy. The Mayhem Syndicate Compensator Mk2 may not be the cheapest Glock accessory out there, but quality costs, and this thing’s worth it, in our opinion, assuming it performs as advertised, and we’re guessing it will.
Defense Review was also informed that Arsenal Democracy will be converting a Glock 19X (G19X) into a Glock 19X MC (G19X MC) format package very soon, as an experiment, which should be interesting. They also plan to create a Mayhem Carry package out of the G19X-format/style Lone Wolf Distributors (LWD) Timberwolf Polymer Replacement Frame that’s supposed to be coming out pretty soon. Arsenal Democracy currently uses LWD Timberwolf polymer frames for they’re full-custom Blackside pistol builds, and AD swears by them for quality, durability and superior stiffness over Glock factory pistolf frames (gripframes).
Editor’s Note: Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy AD Blackside pistols can also be had with custom-stippled/texturized Hyve Technologies +3 and +5 magazine base pads/mag extensions on 15-round G19 and 17-round G17 mags, respectively. DR will be publishing a separate piece on those soon.
