Last year, shortly after SHOT Show 2015, DefenseReview (DR) published a piece on the Arsenal Democracy Blackside customized Glock pistols with DOCTER Sight III Bronze 3.5 MOA, Trijicon night sight Suppressor sets/BUIS (Back UP Iron Sights) and Storm Lake threaded QPQ barrels. The Blackside pistols were impressive, to say the least, but how was one supposed to actually carry one with everything mounted on it, including muzzle can (silencer/sound suppressor) and tactical white light/laser-aimer module? Cut to SHOT Show 2016, and Nous Defions/Arsenal Democracy has designed and developed the answer in the form of the Blackside Suppressed Glock 17 (G17) / Glock 22 (G22) pistol holster that allows you to carry the pistol with both a suppressor and tactical white light/laser-aimer module attached. Pretty cool, but not surprising, considering Arsenal’s innovative drive.
We should note that we were actually already well aware of the new offering, having seen photos of it in the weeks or months prior and viewed and handled it a day or two before at another company’s booth in the (SHOT Show 2016) exhibition hall, but we didn’t know about all of the holster’s design aspects until Nous Defions/Arsenal Democracy head honcho Dave Pavlick took us through it.
The Blackside Suppressed Glock 17/22 Pistol Holster, designed and developed by Pavlick in collaberation with Larry Ryland of KMFJ LLC, is made of Kydex, utilizes an open-topped taco shell design, incorporates a polymer snap-retention strap, and just looks really good–especially with a suppressed Glock pistol in it. To remove the pistol, just unsnap the retention strap with your thumb, give the pistol a slight outward twist (or not, if you don’t want to), and pull up and back, out of the holster. It’s just as easy to push the suppressed (G17) pistol right back in. The retention strap, by the way, is an auxilliary retention/security feature for dynamic combat operations (climbing, repelling, running, fighting, etc.), as the holster will retain the pistol using tension during normal movement, and will even retain the pistol in upside-down orientation.
To aid/smoothen (suppressed) pistol extraction from the holster, Nous Defions/Arsenal Democracy is now doing angled cuts on the front sides of the slide on the Blackside custom Glock pistols as an option. DR really likes the resulting visual aesthetic, and we’ve never seen this particular modification before.
The Blackside Suppressed Pistol Holster also integrates a modular Edge Works Manufacturing (EWM)/G-Code Holsters and Accessories accessory attachment system for carrying the pistol on your belt or gear, via MOLLE. You can see Pavlick demonstrate how the G-Code holster accessory attachment system works in the first/top video embedded below. Swapping out the modular G-Code belt and gear-attachment accessories is simple, easy and fast.
Editor’s Note: DR also likes the newly-developed Blackside Glock 17/22 Extended and Bevelled Magwell, which sports very-well-thought-out chamfering/cuts on the front and sides for fast mag (magazine) insertion and extraction. You can see Pavlick demonstrate this, as well, in the first/top video embedded below. Editor’s Note: The prototype Blackside G17 Extended and Bevelled Magwell is an in-the-white prototype. The production version will be anodized black.
Just like last year, DR got to view and handle the new product while we were visiting Pavlick in the company’s hotel suite on a very high floor in a very nice hotel, this time the Trump Hotel Las Vegas. Perfect setting.
Defense Review is really excited about the new Blackside Suppressed Pistol Holster(s), and can’t wait to get one for our G19 (Glock 19) pistols, and eventually for our very own fully-custom Blackside Glock 19 (G19). The Blackside Glock pistols and holsters are going to be tough to beat for military SOF (Special Operations Forces) and clandestion ops (operations) missions. They’re REALLY intelligently designed, right down to every feature. Everything on them is done for a reason, to make them as utilitarian and efficent as possible. DR is looking forward to eventually running a Blackside G19 at the range using Elite Tactical System ETS smoke-translucent polymer 9mm Glock pistol mags (magazines).
Editor’s Note: DR also really liked the limited-run black “Beyond Shot: Without Fear or Remorse 2015” t-shirt Pavlick was wearing, appropriately featuring an artist’s rendition of an angry-looking honey badger. We believe the t-shirt was made by Beyond Clothing (unconfirmed/unverified), but we’re not sure.
