Glock just released information on their new single-stack “slim-line” 9mm Parabellum/9x19mm NATO sub-compact pistol, called the Glock 43 (G43)–and they’ve got a nice new website specifically for it. FINALLY. This is BIG news, for which DefenseReview (DR) has been waiting a LONG time, long before the Glock 42 (G42) .380 ACP/9mm Kurtz was released awhile back. The G42 sports an over-sized magazine-release button, and what appears to be a Gen-4 gripframe with a slightly extended and reshaped grip tang.
We also have a prediction about the G43. It’s Defense Review’s opinion that the G43 will surpass both the Glock 26 (G26) and Glock 19 (G19), DR’s current concealed carry gun) as Glock’s premiere concealed carry pistol, and has a good chance of becoming the best-selling CCW pistol ever…EVER–in any caliber. If the Glock 43 proves as reliable, accurate and durable as all previous Glock 9mm pistols, it’s got a better than decent shot, excuse the pun, and will likely relegate DR’s G19 to home defense status. We may want to use a magazine/grip extension, though. We’ll see.
The first people to get their hands on one will be NRA SHOW 2015 attendees with an invite to the Glock 43 Launch Party on Thursday, April 9, 2015.
We want one. Oh, and we frankly can’t wait to see what custom/semi-custom shops and Glock accessories manufacturers like ZEV Technologies (ZEV Tech), Arsenal Democracy (AD), the Ashbury Precision Ordnance APO Custom Shop (APOCS) and Salient Arms International (SAI) can do with the G43. We’d also like to see how the G43 stacks up against the Smith & Wesson (S&W) M&P SHIELD sub-compact 9mm pistol in terms of feel/ergonomics, reliability, accuracy and durability.
Editor’s Note: DR was quite disappointed that Glock’s first single-stack was a .380 ACP, rather than a 9mm Parabellum. But the G43 is finally here, and we’re very happy about that. Better late (and second) than never. Let’s just hope the wait’s worth it.
