Meeting up with Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy(NDAD) to check out their latest wares, in an awesome hotel suite in Vegas, has become something of a DefenseReview (DR) tradition in the last few years, and this year was a pretty good one. We met up with Dave Pavlick at the ultra-cool Delano Hotel Las Vegas in a sky suite with perhaps the best 180-degree view of Las Vegas DR’s ever seen.
Anyway, the first gun Mr. Pavlick showed us was the Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy SURG (Suppressor Upper Receiver Group), which is an 8-inch-barreled integrally/recessed suppressed select-fire/full-auto 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/300BLK (300 Blackout) AR (AR-15) SBR/PDW (Short Barreled Rifle/Personal Defense Weapon designed and developed for quiet dynamic CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat). The most interesting aspect of the NDAD SURG is the roughly 8.5″ integral/recessed QA/QD (Quick Attach/Quick Detach) sound supressor/silencer with high-heat-silicone grab handle which goes on and comes off lickity split with a push and a quarter turn, thanks to its 3-lug flash hider mount.
The NDAD SURG also features a NDAD custom 8-inch (8″) barrel), manufactured in-house, which are supposed to be excellent. Editor’s Note: DR also likes the Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) contoured/tapered barrels, Ballistic Advantage barrels, and PROOF Research steel-lined carbon fiber barrels for tactical AR’s, just for the record. The particular NDAD SURG DR viewed and handled was chambered in 300BLK, as NDAD prefers that caliber for dynamic CQB/CQC and medium-range engagements, due to its superior performance over 5.56mm, particularly when being utilized suppressed from a short SBR/PDW-length barrel.
And that’s not all, Monty. The NDAD SURG also sports a full MLOK modular rail system and telescoping/retractable PDW stock (buttstock), making for a highly modular yet ultra-compact suppressed weapon system. The Kinetic Development Group (KDG) Sidelok-mounted optic was also interesting, and it’s also discussed in the embedded DR video below. It’s a Leupold 1.5-5-power 300BLK-specific scope with 300BLK BDC reticle. One side of the reticle is for 110-grain (110gr) supersonic loads (rabbit icon), and the other side is for 220-grain (220gr) subsonic loads (tortoise icon). Supersonic 300BLK ammo takes you out to approximately 600 yards maximum effective range (MER). Subsonic 300BLK ammo takes you out to approx. 400 MER.
Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy really likes the KDG Sidelok Optic Mount, as does our friend Ferdie Sy of FERFRANS for mounting optics on the Ferfrans SOAR, SOAR-P and HVLAR select-fire/full-auto blasters with DSAS/RRS BCG (Delayed Sear Activation System/Rate Reduction System Bolt Carrier Group). The fact that both Nous Defions Arsenal Democracy and FERFRANS like the KDG Sidelok Optic Mount speaks VERY well of the product.
While you can’t buy a semi-auto-only NDAD SURG complete upper (upper receiver) or rifle at this time, this may change in the future if there’s enough interest (you’d need TWO federal tax stamps)–so stay tuned.
It of course goes without saying that Defense Review really wants to run a NDAD SURG 300BLK blaster at the range, at some point, since it looks and feels pretty sweet.
