In our previous article, you might have noticed a smaller piece of combat/tactical .30-caliber ballistic badassery in some of the embedded photos. That’s the NEMO Arms Tango 6 300 Blackout (300BLK) 7.5″ (7.5-inch barrel) integrally-suppressed direct-gas-impingement (DGI) tactical AR V-SBR (Very Short-Barreled Rifle)/sub-carbine, which we also got to handle. The integral muzzle can (silencer/sound suppressor) is a Gemtech GMT-300BLK G-Core-series two-piece titanium can. Being integral and lo-pro/lo-vis, it fits under the Tango 6’s free-float Mil-Std-1913 “Picatinny” rail system, and the can’s front end sports some cool dynamic cuts and a square hole that looked like a diamond due to its orientation on the barrel. You can see this in one of the accompanying photos.
Anyway, the NEMO Tango 6 300BLK VSBR, which we believe also utilizes its own nickel-boron (NiB)-coated NEMO RRS BCG (Recoil Reduction System Bolt Carrier Group) just like its big brother, was designed and developed specifically for U.S. military SOF (Special Operations Forces) assaulters/operators who need a nice, quiet, lo-vis/lo-pro 300 BLK blaster for dynamic CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat) and medium-range engagments out to 440 yards with premium bullets like the Hornady 30 Cal .308 168gr A-MAX. The Tango 6 300BLK SBR is a a little hyper-lethal work of ballistic art on its own, so the integral Gemtech G-Core titanium can makes it a relatively quiet combat masterpiece, assuming it goes bang every time and can indeed achieve consistent hits on a 10″ steel target or gong at 440 yards, as DefenseReview (DR) has been told. While this is something that any gun writer would want to verify himself (or herself) at the range for not completely unselfish reasons, DR’s forced to take NEMO’s word for it for the time being. We hope to remedy that soon.
The Gemtech GMT-300BLK G-Core can’s material (titanium) and two-piece design aspect is reminiscent of the Falken Industries M-Series lightweight titanium suppressor that we covered back in August 2012, but the Gemtech’s internal baffle design looks like a bunch of “S” or “Z” cuts, where the former’s baffles look like circles and ovals. According to The Truth About Guns‘ (TTAG) article on the Gemtech cans, the GMT-300BLK G-Core suppressor’s design relies on “tons of research using the latest computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software.” That reads pretty high-tech. The TTAG piece also states that the can is “hearing safe on the Nemo’s 7.5 inch barrel with PNW 147 grain supersonic and 187 grain Gemtech subsonic loads”, and that “no adjustments are needed to run these two loads”. Sounds pretty good.
Getting back to the gun, though, the NEMO Tango 6 300BLK 7.5″ V-SBR’s high-grade 7075-T6 billet aluminum lower receiver Defense Review examined had some nice features on it. The most immediately-visible one is it’s proprietary NEMO Tango Tigerstripe camo (camouflage) finish cool aesthetic design cuts and texturing.
The lower also sports an interesting triangular cut on both bottom rear corners of the magwell for trigger finger indexing (when not firing), and finger grooves making a “forward grip point” on the front of the magwell for an enhanced gripping or carrying surface. DR only saw “Safe” and “Fire” markings on the weapon’s lower receiver, so we believe the Tango 6 300 BLK SBR is semi-auto-only–but we’re REALLY interested in running a select-fire/full-auto variant at the range sometime, so we can see how it stacks up against a suppressed or, ideally, an integrally-suppressed, Ferfrans SOAR-P (Piston) or Ferfrans SOAR (DGI) .300BLK 7.5″ VSBR.
Specifically, we’d like to find out how the guns compare in terms of cyclic rate of fire (ROF), controllability and reliability. It would be NEMO RRS BCG (Recoil Reduction System Bolt Carrier Group) versus FERFRANS DSAS/RRS (Delayed Sear Activation System/Rate Reduction System) BCG. Now, THAT would make for an intriguing side-by-side matchup! Those FERFRANS guns are little select-fire wonders. They were developed specifically for sustained full-auto fire–all the time, day after day.
DR is particularly curious as to how well the Gemtech GMT-300BLK G-Core will hold up at high-round-count after you’ve hit the happy switch. Put another way, can it literally take the heat on full-auto? Listening to Clint Walker of NEMO Arms describing the suppressor as an “incredibly quiet, robust mono-core design”, we’re guessing it can, but right now it’s just that, a guess. We’d also like know if it can be mated to a PROOF Research carbon fiber (CF) match-grade AR barrel as an upgrade option, a la the Nemo Omen Recon .300WM AR Carbine.
The NEMO Tango 6 300BLK SBR comes with the following premium tactical AR parts:
– Premium Match Trigger
– Bravo Company Manufacturing BCMGunfighter Charging Handle
– Mission First Tactical MFT BATTLELINK Minimalist Stock NEMO Rapid Assault Team (BMS NRAT) Strap Telescoping/Retractable Buttstock
– Law Tactical Law AR Folding Stock Adapter Gen 2, which turns the MFT BMS stock into a folding stock, the only catch being is you have to unfold the stock to put the weapon into action (i.e., fire it). This is an interesting item and ideally suited to 7.5″ V-SBR’s (Very Short Barreled Rifles, but DefenseReview has never run one, nor do we have any reliability/durability data on it.
Since it was designed as a 7.5″-barreled mission-specific gun for U.S. military SOF (Special Operations Forces) assaulters/operators, the NEMO Tango 6 300 BLK VSBR is an NFA item (“Short Barreled Rifle”). But if you live in a state that allows SBR ownership after paying the required federal tax stamp, you could do A LOT worse than this gun (or upper). If you want a civilian-legal gun, the standard-variant NEMO Tango 6 300BLK Carbine with 16-inch (16″) barrel is the way to go. You don’t get the ultra-compact profile or uber-cool integrated Gemtech GMT-300BLK can, but you still get a very cool 300 Blackout tactical AR package.
