Wow. This one’s interesting. Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF-USA) just released info on the POF-USA P300 (also written P-300) .300 Win Mag (.300 Winchester Magnum, or 300WM) semi-auto-only tactical piston/op-rod (short-stroke push-type operating rod) AR rifle/carbine, which looks pretty slick. It’s DefenseReview’s (DR) understanding at present that it potentially comes in below 10 lbs (unconfirmed/unverified). We’re actually still trying to nail down the weight specs. We know the P-300 utilizes Nemo Arms .300WM AR rifle mags (magazines), the same mags utilized by the Nemo Arms Omen Recon 18″ .300WM Tactical AR Carbine, which DR handled at SHOT Show 2014 and subsequently reported on. The NA Omen Recon is a DGI (Direct Gas Impingement) AR, however.
Anyway, the POF-USA P-300 looks good in the photos and video clips we’ve received and embedded in this (short) heads-up article. As you can see, its 4-lb trigger allows for some nice, fast semi-auto shooting, and its 14.5″ tactical handguard/rail system allows the end-user to mount all their preferred tactical AR accessories. So, assuming it’s as reliable, accurate and durable as the POF-USA P-415 and POF-USA P-308 carbine/SBR’s (Short Barreled Rifles), the P300’s a winner, and a great long-range tool to have in one’s ballistic tool box, and would appear to be perfect for Afghanistan-type mountain warfare, assuming the operator’s strong enough to carry it.
The P-300 utilizes POF-USA’s proprietary and patented E2 Extraction (E-Squared Extraction) chamber that floats the fired case right out of the gun during the extraction/ejection cycle. DR likes this design feature, as it reminds us a bit of the Heckler and Koch (HK) fluted chamber concept, which helps to prevent malfunctions and jams by reducing friction between the spent bullet casing and chamber wall.
Defense Review hopes we get a chance to test-fire the P-300 at the range at SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range on Monday, but we’ll settle for handling the gun during the exhibition portion of SHOT Show 2016 next week.
POF-USA was kind enough to send DR some short video clips of the P-300 being demonstrated/test-fired at the range. We hope you enjoy them. If you don’t, though, please keep it to yourself. A little humor. Here:
The folowing is th official POF-USA press release on the P-300:
“For Immediate Release
POF-USA RELEASES A NEW RIFLE CONFIGURATION…THE P300 (300 WIN MAG)
PHOENIX, AZ (January 2016) – Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF-USA) is proud to announce The P300, directly influenced by requests of big game hunters & long range shooters. This new configuration boasts an extended handguard, completely ambidextrous lower receiver and is chambered in the flexible big game 300 Win. Mag. cartridge.
With the addition of the P-300 to the POF line up you have all of your bases covered. You can’t argue the hard-hitting power of the .300 Win Mag, but the major issue plaguing the semi auto win mag market is the sheer size and weight of the platform. Doing what we do best, careful engineering and relentless testing, we condensed this .300 Win Mag package to a size of an AR style .308. The addition of the adjustable gas piston system lets you tune the rifle to optimum performance based on your load and rifle configuration.
The P300 features a 14.5” M-LOK compatible rail handguard which provides the necessary real estate for modern shooting positions. The M rail is unique in that additional rail sections are able to be mounted based on the shooters needs, or stripped off to reduce weight/size. If the top rails are removed from the M rail, the shooter has the ability to utilize optics with larger objectives and lower mounting options. This feature ensures solid cheek weld and increases point of aim consistency. Keeping with the desire for consistency, The P300 features an adjustable Magpul CTR stock on the 18” variant and a Magpul MOE rifle length installed on the 24” variant. (Furniture is subject to change) The P300 comes with an EFP drop in trigger (4-lb. trigger pull).
The P300 is a product of the Generation 4 series of rifles which feature completely ambidextrous controls including the safety selector, bolt catch, bolt release and magazine release. This new rifle also features our E² extraction technology. . E² extraction is a patented feature consisting of four channels along the neck of the chamber. The channels allow gas pressure to flow backwards and push on the shoulders of the spent casing resulting in extractor life of 5X that of a standard extractor due to the push / pull action. This feature will not damage the brass and will not affect the re-loading capability that most competition shooters require.
POF-USA is an Arizona-based small arms manufacturer known for its revolutionary concepts and radical approaches to engineering used to develop the finest piston driven AR-type rifles used by civilians and professionals worldwide. We are a market leader delivering a portfolio of regulated short-stroke gas piston operating rifles. We accept no compromise in the building of our product, known as “Patriot” designs. We will only produce that which is tough, accurate, modular, durable and true. This patriotic mission is brought from passion, authenticity, trustworthiness, rebellion, independence and objectivity.
