DefenseReview (DR) received a very welcome press release from OKAY Industries’ marketing representative yesterday about the commercial release of their AR rifle mags (magazines), including the OKAY SureFeed USGI-type 30-round standard-capacity 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO, 4179 STANAG) AR mag (magazine) for AR-15/M16/M4/M4A1 rifle/carbines. The SureFeed 30-round mag was heretofore only available to U.S. Government customers. The SureFeed mags are made in the USA, and here to stay, since they’re made of high-quality lightweight aluminum, MILSPEC heat-treated for strength and durability, and then hard-coat-anodized for good measure. On the inside, the SureFeed mag sports a self-lubricating 4-way anti-tilt follower made of non-hydroscopic resin, and a MILSPEC stainless-steel magazine spring to “keep rounds properly aligned and tensioned for flawless performance”. Reads pretty good.
The Okay Industries Surefeed USGI-type 30-round standard-capacity AR mags are avalable with either a MILSPEC dry film lube grey finish or Tactical Black PTFE finish, according to customer preference. Okay Industries claims that the mags undergo a very high level of quality control (QC).
Oh, and SureFeed 10 and 20-round mags are also available, in case you’re into that kind of thing, or you live in California.
Defense Review is interested to know how the SureFeed mag’s anti-tilt follower stacks up against the MagPul Industries Enhanced Self-Leveling Follower – USGI 5.56X45 anti-tilt follower kit, which is what DR has historically relied on for use in our USGI-type aluminum AR (5.56mm) mags, in order to maximize their reliability. Lately, however, DR has primarily been running polymer 30-round mags like the Lancer L5 AWM (Advanced Warfighter Magazine), IMI Defense G2 5.56 30-Round Enhanced Magazine, and the Elite Tactical Systems ETS AR Mag (Magazine), as well as the MWG IK-520 ’40-Rounder’ 40-Round Steel-Reinforced Polymer AR-15 Rifle Mag and SureFire MAG5-60 60-shot quad-stack box mag–although the MWG 90-Rounder Snail Drum Magazine works well, too. It’s just a bit cumbersome to handle. Editor’s Note: We’ve also run the SureFire MAG5-100 100-shot quad-stack box mag quite a bit, including on high-round full-auto with multiple mags back-to-back, and the mags (MAG5-100) ran like the wind, so we were impressed the SureFire 100-rounder, too.
DR doesn’t actually currently have any OKAY Industries SureFeed 30-round 5.56mm AR mags in our inventory, and we’ve never done a real/true high-round-count reliability and durability test on them versus any of our favored polymer mag brands under adverse conditions–but we hope to change that at some point. We’d love to run some of the new ones if/when we can get our hands on some. We do like their “Every Round. Every Time” tagline, though. Very balsy…um, we mean, confident.
In the meantime, here’s a slightly modified/sanitized version of the email message DR received from Okay Industries’ marketing rep Matt Foster of FMJ Marketing Development, which contains some good information on the SureFeed mag’s commercial release:

Greetings,
I hope this email finds you well and that you had a great Thanksgiving weekend.
It is a pleasure to let you know that Okay Industries AR-15 magazines are now available commercially for the first time! Called SureFeed®, these are the best USGI type magazines available for the AR platform. Each magazine goes through an extensive inspection and testing process before shipping.
Okay Industries helped co-develop the 30 around AR mag with the U.S. Military in 1973. Since then OKAY magazines have been one of the preferred magazines of the U.S. Military.
They have an incredible magazine making heritage, having made 15 and 30 round M1 Carbine mags by the millions during WWII.
Attached is the press release and sell sheet. I encourage you to check out the website, www.surefeedmagazines.com and the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SureFeed-Magazines
If you have any questions let me know and I’m happy to help.
Thanks for your time.
Best Regards,

Reliability is the most important quality for any magazine. Okay Industries achieves this reliability through extensive quality controls. Every magazine goes through an exhaustive battery of inspections and tests before being shipped. Some of the areas tested include weld integrity verification, feed lip tolerance and material quality. This all leads up to the final proprietary qualification where each magazine is tested for fit and function. This proprietary inspection and testing process and the resulting superior quality of SureFeed® magazines is why OKAY has been a supplier to the U.S. Government since 1973.
SureFeed® magazines are now available in 30, 20 and 10 round capacities with an MSRP of $18.95-$19.95
