Diamondhead USA has developed a very interesting new rear sight called the Diamondhead Diamond Generation 2 (Gen-2) Flip-Up Rear Sight BUIS (Back-Up Iron Sight) for tactical AR (AR-15) rifles/carbines/SBR (Short Barreled Rifles)/sub-carbines that allows the tactical operator/shooter to immediately switch from CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat) shooting engagements to longer-range/medium-range engagements and back again in a flash. Diamondhead president/CEO John DeLuca took DefenseReview (DR) through the new sight at SHOT Show 2013, and the product really impressed us.
While the embedded video below lays it all out for you, here are some of the highlights in written format, all courtesy of Mr. (John) DeLuca:
“What we’ve done is we’ve taken the aperture, the front [sight] housing, and now the rear [sight] housing, and matched them all together. So, what you have is a true integrated sighting system. And, by matching all of those shapes together, you find the center of your target extremely fast. Everything matches. The front, rear and apperture are all matching now.
One of the hidden features of the sight is…that because the rear housing is actually a sight itself, you don’t need the rear aperture. And, by removing the aperture, you can create a ghost ring [sight], where you use the front sight framed by the rear [sight] housing, and it’s extremely fast at close range [shooting] or full-auto shooting.
And that ghost ring really helps in full-auto fire or at close-range shooting when you’re not looking for hittin’ the button, you’re trying to hit the center of mass. And so this target ing system is extremely fast.”
Pretty badass, AND you still have your rear apertures. When you have to shoot at longer range/medium range, it’s very easy to flip from the large aperture for standard distance (CQB/CQC) to the small aperture for longer distances, according to DeLuca. Needless to say, DR really wants to run the new Diamondhead sight as soon as possible. The complete Diamondhead Diamond Gen-2 Front/Rear Sight BUIS system retails for approx. $238.00 USD, is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty.
In the first/top video below, you’ll also notice the very cool Diamondhead V-RS T/TD Versa-Rail System Lightweight Free-Float Triangular Modular Rail/Tactical Handguard, which we covered right after SHOT Show 2012. That product is also worth a very serious look, which is why we’ve also embedded the video we shot of it at SHOT Show 2012, below (second/bottom video). It’s a great-looking rail, in our opinion.
