Troy Industries has created a new division for their complete firearms packages called Troy Defense. Two of the new products they showed DefenseReview.com (DR) at SHOT Show 2013 were the Troy Defense M7 PDW 7-inch (7") tactical AR-15 SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)/sub-carbine and Troy Defense 14.5 Trunk Monkey 14.5-inch (14.5") tactical AR carbine. Currently, both weapons are select-fire and chambered in 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/.223 Rem., but will soon be available in 300 AAC Blackout (300BLK).
DR published information on the Troy Defense M7 PDW Upper Receiver Upgrade Kit and separate complete lower receiver after we viewed and handled it at NDIA SOFIC 2012. It intrigued us, and it was a nice little package. Turning it into a complete AR SBR/carbine package is the next logical step and a welcome one. The new guns look good and felt quality-made when we handled them, and we look forward to running them at the range, at some point.
Defense Review doesn't yet know whether or not semi-auto-only versions of the Troy PDW and 14.5 Trunk Monkey will be offered in the future.
Editor's Note: DR would like to thank Kurt Zimmerman of Troy Defense for taking us through the new guns at the booth.
