There are two kinds of politicians, generally: those who strive to protect and augment the freedoms of the American people in order to give them more autonomy over their own lives, and those who strive to curtail our freedoms in order to exert more control over us, to dominate us. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo falls into the latter category, and his recent middle-of-the-night-ram-it-through-while-people-are-sleeping passage and signing of an absolutely draconian gun-control law in New York is a prime example. The law outlaws standard-capacity pistol and rifle mags (15+ and 30+ rounds, respectively), and limits mag capacity to a paltry 7-rounds, 3-rounds less than the expired federal assault weapons ban allowed. Understand that the (expired) federal AWB's 10-round capacity limit provision cut magazine capacity by a drastic 67%–but that apparently wasn't good enough for Mr. Cuomo. Being Italian, you'd think he'd like firearms. Guess not. A little humor.
Anyway, since Governor Cuomo has shown himself to be a fascist gun-grabber and civil rights violator with a rather maniacal totalitarian bent, more specifically exhibiting no qualms whatsoever about effectively nullifying (or at least neutering) the Second Amendment, a lot of gun owners and Constitutionalists are probably hoping Mr. Cuomo falls off a jagged cliff somewhere, walks into an Africanized beehive, or contracts an antibiotic-resistant form of gonorrhea…or at least a raging case of genital herpes (the really itchy kind).
Of course, Gov. Cuomo would probably argue that he's engaging in his citizen-disarmament crusade in order to protect the children, or the citizenry, or soccer moms, or whomever from all those evil crazy potential active shooters out there. The problem(s) with that is that there's absolutely nothing in his new gun control law that will accomplish that, and, oh yeah, the law grossly violates our Constitutional rights. So, if Cuomo's gun control law doesn't solve the problem, what's it really about? It's about controlling us, the American people. He's saying that we, the law-abiding citizenry, simply can't be trusted with 30-round magazines, since we're not responsible enough. Therefore, the government must take them away from us.
That's the bad news. The good news is that the new law most likely violates the Constitution and will therefore very likely be successfully challenged at the federal level and struck down by the United States Supreme Court. And, in the meantime, Defense Distributed (DefDist) recently created a product-improved 3D-printed/additive manufactured polymer 30-round AR-15 magazine called the "Cuomo Mag", or "Cuomo AR Mag". The Cuomo Mag renders Gov. Cuomo's ability to restrict the ownership of standard-capacity magazines exceedingly difficult, since people can essentially print them in the comfort of their own homes.
Cody Wilson and the rest of the boys at DefDist have dialed-in the 3D-printed mag housing/body specs to the point that they were able to fire 342 rounds total using it–227 rounds on ful-auto, and 115 rounds on semi-auto. Not bad for an early-generation 3D-printed mag. Not bad at all.
Gov. Cuomo has been quoted as saying "You can overpower the extremists with intelligence and with reason and with common sense." Well, it would appear that you can overcome leftist fascist gun-control extemists with a 3D printer and a little moxy.
