American Defense Manufacturing (ADM), long known for making superlative mounts for tactical AR (AR-15) accessories, is now making some pretty cool complete rifles. To that end, ADM COO John Gross recently showed DefenseReview (DR) a prototype piece of beautiful ballistic badassery known as the ADM UIC-10A, or Universal Improved Carbine-10A at SHOT Show 2015. The semi-auto-only UIC-10A is an AR-10/SR-25-format 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51mm NATO)/.308 Win. battle rifle/carbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle), essentially a big brother to the ADM UIC 5.56mm. Like the 5.56mm UIC, the UIC-10A sports full ambi controls (ambidextrous controls), including an ambi safety/selector switch, ambi mag (magazine) release button, ambi BCG (Bolt Carrier Group) catch/release lever. To make the gun completely ambidextrous, it will also come with a BCM BCMGunfighter 7.62mm/.308 Ambi Charging Handle, according to Gross (see video below).
Rounding out the UIC-10A gun package are an ADM KeyMod rail system, B5 Systems and telescoping/retractable AR stock (buttstock) (B5 Enhanced SOPMOD or B5 Bravo SOPMOD, not sure which). The B5 stocks are excellent, although we also like the Ark Defense Enhanced SOPMOD Buttstock. The one we examined was also outfitted with a Griffin Armament 7.62 Flash Comp with what looked to be a Griffin Armament Taper Mount Blast Shield, and MagPul AR-15/M16 MOE AR Pistol Grip. The UIC-10A carbine Defense Review viewed and handled sported Griffin Armament Fail Safe Angle Sights (45-degree-offset front and rear back-up iron sights, or BUIS), but they’ll be offering an ADM AD-MOB (Modular Offset Base) 45-degree-offset mini red dot sight/combat optic mount for separate purchase in the future. Mr. Gross also showed DR the new ADM 2-stage AR combat trigger they’ve developed, but we can’t remember whether or not the UIC-10A we handled had one installed. We’re guessing the new trigger will be excellent, just like ADM’s other products. We’re also curious as to whether or not the UIC-10A will be rocking ADM’s 60-degree-throw ambid safety/selector switch.
DR got to play around with the ADM UIC-10A prototype for a few minutes at the show (SHOT Show), and we really liked what we saw and felt. The gun felt good in the hands, and all the ambi lower receiver controls worked nicely. Also, if you look at the accompanying photos (and video below), you’ll see that the UIC-10 7.62mm (specifically the upper and lower receivers) isn’t that much physically larger than the 5.56mm UIC. We just don’t yet know the weight difference between the two guns (empty and loaded). So, we’ll try to find that out and update this article accordingly, ASAP.
MSRP on the ADM UIC-10A currently comes in at approximately 2,800.00 USD, as of this writing. It’s a very nice 7.62mm tactical AR package, and definitely worth a serious look by anyone thinking of acquiring a new AR-platform battle rifle/carbine–or any battle rifle/carbine, for that matter.
