Midwest Industries (MI) recently introduced their Gen-3 extended M-LOK AR (AR-15) modular rail systems/tactical handguards at SHOT Show 2017, and company representative Pete Bratz was kind enough to take DefenseReview (DR) through them at their booth. The first rail Bratz showed us was the 18-inch (18″) extended M-LOK tactical handguard/rail system that sports a continuous MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny” top rail, and generally gives you more real estate for mounting night vision and/or thermal/IR (Infrared) weapon sights, laser aimers (visible or IR) and tactical white lights or IR illuminators (weapon lights). MI also makes a lightweight version of this (18″) rail that eliminates the former’s coninuous top rail in favor of M-LOK mounting holes. The third MI extended rail Bratz showed us is a 17-inch (17″) rail made specifically for integrating with a side-vent muzzle brake on a 16-inch (16″) barrel.
All three Midwest Industries Gen-3 extended rails Bratz showed DR looked well-made, and well-designed, as we’ve now come to expect from them. MI makes some of the best bang-for-the-buck semi-auto-only tactical AR rifle/carbines, rails and accessories in the business, and they don’t sit on their laurels. Their products work, and they don’t break the bank.
Defense Review would like to get a MI Gen-3 rail system into DR writer/contributor and chief new-product tester Jeff Gurwitch’s hands as soon as possible for T&E and review. In the meantime, check out the video we shot below.
