As much as the HK433 bores us, that’s how much the Cobalt Kinetics Evolve AR and its patented and proprietary CARS (Cobalt Advantage Reloading System) speed-reloading system interests and excites us. In other words, quite a bit. DefenseReview (DR) has been reporting on the Cobalt Kinetics Evolve 3-Gun competition/tactical AR (AR-15) rifle/carbine and it’s unique CARS speed reloading system for awhile now, and we’re big fans of the system. So, we were really happy to see its latest iteration, the CK Evolve 3.0 at SHOT Show 2017. Basically Cobalt Kinetics added a CARS system “defeat switch” disconnector and back-up standard AR mag (magazine) release button to the Evolve 2.0 AR, so the end-user/shooter can turn off the controls and eject mags manually to operate the Evolve as a normal AR rifle either by choice, or by necessity if the CARS system were to somehow fail. This is something DR (and probably others) has been asking and hoping for, so it was a welcome addition/improvement to the Evolve.
The new Evolve 3.0 AR rifle continues to improve the whole system. Frankly, it’s just nice seeing everything evolving. Sorry, had to do it.
But, it gets even better, as Cobalt Kinetics has simultaneously developed a seemingly awesome AR rifle round counter/shot counter, that knows exactly how many rounds you have left, even if you do a tactical mag change, where you eject a partially-loaded mag and insert a full mag. Pretty cool.
Since Defense Review discussed the CARS system in detail in our first article on the Evolve, we’re not going to rehash it here. If you’d like to learn more about it, we’d suggest your read our first piece, or watch our first/top embedded video below. In the bottom video, you can see Cobalt Kinetics’ Connor Degnin taking DR through the Cobalt Kinetics Round Counter. That one’s definitely worth watching. Anyway, enjoy.
Editor’s Note: DR would be very interested in seeing some select-fire full-auto SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)/PDW variants of the Cobalt Kinetics Evolve equipped with the Cobalt Kinetics AR Rifle Round Counter, the Geissele HSS (High Speed Selector), CARS-adapted FERFRANS Inc. DSAS/RSS (Delayed Sear Activation System)/Rate Reduction System BCG (Bolt Carrier Group), and either an Operators Suppressor Systems/OSS Mission or Arsenal Firearms AF Streamer QD556-A and QD762-A QA/QD low-back-pressure silencer/sound suppressor (the latter was designed and developed by Finnish company Saimaa Still Oy, btw). Now, THOSE would be some interesting little weapons packages!
