Speaking of tactical AR-15/M4/M4A1 Carbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)/sub-carbine accessories, the extremely prolific Strike Industries (SI) just introduced a really nifty, good-looking +2-Round mag extension for the MagPul PMAG 30 polymer AR rifle mag called the SI Enhanced Magaine Plate, or “EMP” for short. The SI EMP’s visual aesthetic is commensurate and complementary to the PMAG’s, so much so that the EMP looks like it was developed in-house by MagPul Industries, even though it wasn’t, and is an aftermarket part. So, SI’s product-design team really nailed it.
The SI EMP is only for the MagPul PMAG 30 M2 MOE mag, but Strike Industries is currently developing a +5-round mag extension for the and MagPul PMAG M3 mag, which in DR’s opinion, is the way to go (+5 rounds). We found out about the SI +5-round mag extension in development for the PMAG, when we called Strike Industries to recommend that they develop a +5-round mag extension for MILSPEC aluminum USGI 30-rounders and the Lancer L5 AWM (Advanced Warfighter Magazine) polymer mags, which are currently DR’s favorite polymer mags, since they’re reliable, use wraparound spring-steel feed lips, and there are translucent variants, so you can see your ammo count.
As it turns out, SI is already working on the +5-round mag extension for MILSPEC USGI mags, and I was told by an SI rep that they’d be willing to look into the viability of developing a +5-round mag extension for the Lancer L5 AWM.
Oh, and you can buy three EMP’s at a time, if you’d like, with the convenient SI EMP 3-pack.
