Grey Ghost Precision (GGP) Specter series tactical AR carbines weren’t the only cool items DefenseReview (DR) came across at the company’s booth at SHOT Show 2015. We also spied a very cool combat/tactical jacket called the Rig Light Jacket, which is the product of a tactical collaboration between Beyond Clothing and Grey Ghost Gear (GGG). It’s one of the nicest and best looking jackets of this type (softshell) DR has seen in awhile, and we really liked its Grey Man (or, Gray Man) urban grey color scheme.
Constructed from Beyond’s proprietary 4-way-stretch woven fabric (technical fabric), the Beyond Grey Ghost Rig Light Jacket combines the “durability of a softshell with the lighter weight of a midlayer jacket”, and integrates some nicely placed and positioned zippered pockets, including hand pockets, a chest pocket, and arm (bicep) pockets. 4×7″ Velcro loop patches, a lo-pro (low-profile), tuckaway ripstop nylon hood, hook and loop wrist closures, and DWR fabric treatment for shedding light rain and snow rounds out the nicely-put-together package. In the embedded video below, Grey Ghost’s Director of Business Development Lindsey Lea says the Rig Light’s 4-way stretch fabric is “Tweave“, which means Tweave Durastretch technical fabric.
Editor’s Note: DR subsequently saw and photographed a Rig Light Jacket again on the Grey Ghost Gear boat at NDIA Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) 2015, so we mentioned and featured it in our piece on the Grey Ghost tactical armor plate carriers and stand-alone hard armor plates, published back in July (2015).
Anyway, the Rig Light’s a really good-looking jacket, and one you have to see in person to fully appreciate. The design is quite elegant and eye catching. So, if you’re currently looking for a new softshell jacket for combat/tactical shooting on damp range days, you should definitely take a close look at this one. Needless to say, Defense Review is going to try to get our hands one for T&E and a hands-on review at some point. So far, the tactical jackets we have the most experience with are made by Triple Aught Design (TAD Gear), and Otte Gear and Vertx (see ‘Related Articles’ section below). We should perhaps note that we’re not big fans of the people we’ve met at Arc’teryx at SHOT Show, since they (Arc’teryx personnel) weren’t particularly helpful (or nice) to us.
