It would appear that your humble correspondent and Presidential Candidate Gov. Rick Perry (Texas) have the same taste in tactical clothing/shooting garb, and are, well, uhm…jacket bros, if you will. Governor Perry recently tweeted a photo of himself doing some tactical/combat pistol shooting while wearing a Triple Aught Design/TAD Gear Recon tactical/combat fleece jacket (O.D. Green), which is the exact make, model and color jacket that I sometimes wear to my tactical shooting and training engagements. Both ABC News (Michael Falcone and Arlette Saenz report) and the Washington Post (Felicia Sonmez blog post) have published short pieces on it.
As it happens, I recently wore my own TAD Gear Recon Hoodie to a CTT-Solutions (CTT-S) Advanced Carbine course taught by retired U.S. Army Special Forces (SF) assaulter/operator, tactical shooting instructor, and DefenseReview (DR) writer/contributor Mike Pannone and sponsored by Grey Group Training (GGT). You can see some photos of this below. For the record, I ran an Adams Arms (AA) Evo UltraLight super-slick lightweight tactical AR upper receiver during the class, and loved it (gun AND class)!

And, that’s apparently not the only thing Gov. Perry and I have in common. We both have an affinity for LaRue Tactical products. Defense Review has discovered a YouTube video (see below) of Gov. Perry hanging out and doing some shooting with Mark LaRue and the boys at the range–using what appears to be a LaRue Tactical OBR/OSR series 7.62mm NATO/.308 Win. tactical AR (AR-10-type) rifle/carbine, of course. We here at DR are particularly enamored with the LaRue Tactical PredatAR OBR Series lightweight tactical AR carbines (5.56mm NATO and 7.62mm NATO), for which the aforementioned Mr. Pannone has also expressed a liking (verbally, to us). DR reported on the LaRue PredatAR guns immediately after SHOT Show 2011, and Pannone reviewed a LaRue Tactical Stealth 16″ tactical AR upper a few years ago for us.
Ya’ know, I’m really startin’ to like this guy. Gov. Perry’s obviously pro-Second Amendment/pro-firearms ownership, and he appears to be doing a really great job in Texas economically and with jobs. If Gov. Perry ends up being the eventual Republican nominee for President of the United States (POTUS), DefenseReview will definitely support him, and he’ll get our vote!
