Every so often, news of some radical, super-devastating super bullet comes out, sending the mainstream media (MSM) into a frenzy and exciting the masses with the though of liquifying a human being's major organs–all of them, with one shot. In the past, it was dastardly (MUCHO sarcasm) rounds like the Winchester Black Talon round(s) that sent the MSM into a cacophonous collective conniption.
This time, there are two super-devastor bullet stories making the rounds, one on G2 Research (G2R) R.I.P. (Radically Invasive Projectile) ammo, designed, according to the company to, of course, "take out all your vital organs", and the other on the Advanced Ballistic Concepts (ABC) Multiple Impact Bullet (MIB), described by CNN (about as anti-gun/anti-Second Amendment as you can get), as "a unique new round that, upon firing, splits into several fragments connected by ballistic-strength fiber". The MIB round looks like fun because it acts kind of like a bolo round where three major bullet fragments are held together by "ballistic-strength fiber", hitting the target in a large "Y"-shaped pattern. The pistol ammo fragments penetrate to about 14", and the rifle amo fragments penetrate to about 24". So, I guess it's the "Y" that makes you die (Copyright: David Crane).
Anyway, obviously, whenever these stories surface, the company, or in this case companies, plural (G2 Research and Advanced Ballistic Concepts, respectively), get lots of negative attention and hyperbolic stories from the MSM (Mainstream Media) and lots of incredulous eye rolls from firearms and ammunition industry professionals who usually can only shake their heads and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
This of course is not to say that the G2R and MIB ammo doesn't work exactly as advertised. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But even if there were such a thing as one-shot-stop ammo, it's probably best not to bet your life and continued good health on your ammo (pistol OR rifle) stopping the threat after only one shot, and/or selecting your defensive strategy and tactics on that rather naive expectation.
That said, DefenseReview (DR), firearms technology geeks that we are, are interested in learning more about both companies and their super ammo. Maybe its indeed awesome, and, frankly, anything firearm or ammo product that makes the MSM go crazy shoud make enjoyably ridiculous news articles and television stories where liberal anti-gun writers and broadcast journalists freak out and show their left-leaning bias and general distrust of the law-abiding (armed) citizenry. DR's particularly interested in the G2R R.I.P. 9mm round, MIB Mi-3 Pulse "Stopper" Lethal 9mm round and the Mi-3 Pulse "Stunner" Semi-Lethal 9mm round, since your humble correspondent carries a Gen-3 G19 (Glock 19) 9mm semi-auto pistol.
