While DefenseReview (DR) was checking out the CZ P-10 C (also written P-10C) compact striker-fired 9mm pistol at the company’s booth at SHOT Show 2017, CZ USA’s Zach Hein was kind enough to also show us the new CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 blowback-operated semi-auto-only suppressed 9mm (9mm Parabellum/9x19mm NATO) Pistol/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)/carbine/PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) with Silencerco Omega 9K 5″ (5-inch) silencer/sound suppressor. Hein told DR that you stick a folding/telescoping/retractable stock (buttstock) on the gun, but you’ll need an SBR license (federal tax stamp) to do so. You’ll also need a federal tax stamp for the Silencerco suppressor, of course. But, assuming you live in a state where you can get those, it’s doable, and just a waiting game.
The gun can be set up as a recessed-suppressed pistol or SBR, or a traditionally suppressed SBR, depending on the barrel you use. Whichever setup you go with, a folding/telescoping stock and Silencerco Omega 9K muzzle can (or other Silencerco can) will turn the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Pistol + Silencerco Omega 9K Suppressor into a formidable little home-defense and recreational plinking package, provided the gun’s reliable, particularly when suppressed. DR digs it, conceptually and visually, though.
Defense Review’s actually been following the Scorpion’s development for awhile now, and this is a really interesting variant of it yet. So, it’s worth checking out. However, it would appear that CZ Scorpion EVO S1 Pistol was only a limited-run product, and has now been discontinued. So, if you can’t find one, you’ll have to settle for the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine. The carbine sports a 16.2″ barrel fitted with either a compensating muzzle brake or a faux suppressor built specifically for CZ-USA by SilencerCo. Not as fun or interesting, but also worth checking out.
Editor’s Note: DR can’t remember wether the folding-stock variant of the CZ Scorpion EVO S1 is the carbine or or the pistol/SBR outfitted with a folding stock and longer suppressor.
The following information on the weapon comes from the Silencerco website:
“The CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 is fairly new on the firearms scene, but has already solidified its reputation as a must-have in the arsenals of everyone from novice buyers to serious collectors.
Imported as pistols, SilencerCo has put in the time and effort to turn these into 922r-compliant short barreled rifles (SBRs). Paired with an Omega 9K and a custom-embroidered 5.11 Select Carry Sling Pack, this package is low in profile and high in demand.
Only 35 of these packages are available, and KF Armory is the only place to buy them.
