Since DefenseReview (DR) has recently published a number of Kalashnikov AK/AKM-relevant articles, we should probably mention a company called Teludyne Tech Industries (TTI) that will apparently be making some very accurate (and interesting) precision "StraightJacket" barrels (more like barrel systems, really) for PSL, AK-47/74, SKS, and FN-FAL rifles, soon. So, actual sniper-grade Kalashnikov rifles and carbines could be on the horizon, at least theoretically.
Teludyne's secret sauce, or secret formula, if you will, is actually a proprietary resin that Guns.com says is "guarded like the recipe for Coca-Cola". This special resin goes between the barrel core and an outer barrel jacket made out of aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel or titanium to create a "revolutionary" composite barrel system that, according to Teludyne's Alan Adolphson, "removes the harmonics waves from your barrel", and "also has the benefits of being able to handle the heat to the point where no heat level in your barrel has any effect on your accuracy", turning an average rifle/carbine into a match-grade rifle/carbine. That's any average rifle, not just AK's. Pretty cool.
DefenseReview just wonders whether or not Teludyne's barrel tech is lightweight enough to be utilized on tactical carbines and SBRs intended for dynamic CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat).
