In our just-published article on the US PALM takedown/breadkdown AK (Kalashnikov AK-47/AKM rifle/carbine), we mentioned U.S. PALM’s 30-round and 45-round quad-stack (4×2 config) AK mags (7.62x39mm Russian), but we felt that these new rifle mags (rifle magazines) warranted their own article, so here ya’ go.
In late 2010, DefenseReview (DR) broke the story on the SureFire/Arm West MAG5-60 60-shot and MAG5-100 100-shot quad-stack (4×2 config) 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO)/.223 Rem. HCMs (High Capacity Magazines), which are extremely cool. Little did we know then that just over a year later, we’d be handling quad-stack AKM mags at SHOT Show 2012! If the new US PALM (U.S. Primary Armament Logistical Manufacturing) quad-stack rifle mags work as well as they look and feel, US Palm and TangoDown are in business, both literally and figuratively, as TangoDown is manufacturing the mags exclusively for U.S. PALM.
If you need maximum firepower (immediate ammo capacity), the US PALM 45-rounder’s deifinitely the way to go, but if you need to hit the dirt and go prone, the 30-rounder’s the ticket. US PALM is also marketing a TangoDown-manufactured conventional/traditional curved double-stack 30-round polymer AK mag called the US PALM AK30 Mag 30rd.
Defense Review doesn’t yet know what type of polymer material TangoDown is using for the mags. It looks and feels like either some kind of Nylon-based polymer or a fiberglass/polymer blend, but we’re just not sure.
DR will try to obtain some product samples for T&E at the range ASAP, and we’re curious to know whether or not US PALM also plans to develop 5.45x39mm Russian-caliber double-stack and quad-stack AK mags, and whether or not reliable double-stack and quad-stack 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm AK mags can developed for the AR (AR-15/M16/M4/M4A1) rifle/carbine platform by either SureFire/Arm West or US PALM.
In the meantime, enjoy the following demo video(s) from the show (SHOT Show 2012). In the first video below, US PALM’s Clint Bryan takes DR through the US PALM/Midwest Industries MI Rail Kit and US PALM quad stack polymer AK mags:
