A company called Gungner Inc. has developed a very interesting chassis system for the Ruger 10/22 .22LR rifle/carbine. It’s called, appropriately enough, the Gungner GR-22 Chassis System for Ruger 10/22, and it essentialy turns your 10/22 into a tactical .22 LR AR rifle/carbine, allowing you to attach an aftermarket telescoping/retractable AR stock (AR-15 buttstock). The GR-22 Chassis System is comprised of two main components, a “receiver extension” section and a MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny”-type rail section that fit together quickly and easily, and are secured with a few screws . Once assembled, the GR-22 Chassis System turns the traditional, boring-looking Ruger 10/22 into a cool-looking black gun, completely changing the vibe.
DefenseReview (DR) hasn’t T&E’d the GR-22 Chassis System for Ruger 10/22 yet, so we don’t yet know how it feels when shooting. However since the system simply replaces the 10/22’s wood stock, fits around your Ruger 10/22 receiver and barrel, and adds some AR-type features and ergonomics, we’re guessing it feels pretty darn good (just like any Ruger 10/22). The Picatinny rail obviously allows the shooter to install either an angled or stubby vertical fore grip, for enhanced ergonomics and weapon control. You can see this in the video below.
Since the components are made from fiberglass-reinforced nylon, the GR22 Chassis System is a neat little Ruger 10/22 rifle/carbine conversion kit, and should prove very durable. And, it’s made right here in the USA, which is nice.
Installation looks fairly easy, by the way, and Gungner has a video on it (see below).
Here are the GR-22 Chassis System specs from the Gungner Inc. website:
– Mil-Spec sized receiver extension allows the use of AR-15 carbine stocks.
– Aluminum grip block molded into the chassis gives the system a solid mounting point for AR-15 grips.
– Picatinny sight rail allows the mounting of scopes, red dot sights, and/or rear BUIS.
– Extended forend with full length top and bottom Picatinny rail allows the use of various accessories such as lights, laser sights, front BUIS, vertical/angled foregrips, bipods, sling mounts, etc.
– Domestically manufactured from a highly durable, fiberglass-reinforced nylon.
