Towards the end of SHOT Show 2019, DefenseReview (DR) stopped by the Vortex Optics booth to check out their latest and greatest products, and the first one we looked at was the new Vortex Razor HD Gen II-E (Enhanced) 1-6×24 combat/tactical scope, and it’s quite an combat optic. “This is a no-nonsense, bulletproof, battle-proof optic,” says company rep Ryan Muckenhirn. It’s also about a quarter pound (4 ounces) lighter than the previous-generation Razor HD Gen II scope.
Muckenhirn told DR that there are three reticle options for the Vortex Razor HD Gen II-E tactical scope, the JM-1 BDC, the VMR-2 (MOA) and the VMR-2 (MRAD). He also told us it retains all the reliability and ruggedness of the previous gen scope.
Defense Review would very much like to get a Razor HD Gen II-E scope into DR writer/contributor and chief new-product tester Jeff Gurwitch’s very capable hands for a real reange review at some point. Gurwitch is both a former US Military SOF (Special Operatons Forces) operator and 3-Gun competitive shooter, so he can evaluate the scope for both purposes. If he signs off on it, it’s good to go.
DR’s curious to find out the maximum distance Gurwitch can consistently engage targets with the Razor HD Gen II-E and a 14.5-16″ tactical AR (AR-15) carbine in 5.56mm NATO (5.56x45mm NATO) cartridge, specifically with the Black Hills 77-grainer (OTM).
In the meantime, enjoy DR’s video below.
The following information comes directly from the Vortex website:
“At nearly 1/4 pound lighter than the original Razor HD Gen II 1-6×24, the “E” (Enhanced) model allows for quicker transitions between targets and less arm fatigue during long days on the range. Perfect for the AR platform, the Gen II-E 1-6 is a top-tier optical solution for short to medium range tactical applications. Optically, it delivers the highest level of clarity, resolution, color accuracy, light transmission and edge-to-edge sharpness. True 1x on the low end is complimented by an ultra-forgiving eyebox with generous eye relief for a heads-up-display-like sight picture and a daylight bright illuminated center dot in the reticle for extremely fast target acquisition in close quarters. Ultra-sleek and built like a tank on a 30mm, aircraft-grade aluminum tube, the Razor HD Gen II-E 1-6×24 features ultra-low profile, capped windage and elevation turrets for streamlined performance. Zero-resettable turrets offer 50 MOA (20 MRAD) of adjustment in a single turn, ensuring ample travel.
