As if the new TNVC/Unity Tactical Hot Button remote pressure switch weren’t enough, Chip Lasky of TNVC (Tactical Night Vision Company) and Unity Tactical also showed DefenseReview (DR) the new Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount, FAST FTC Aimpoint Mag (Magnifier) Mount, FAST Riser, and FAST Scope Mount at theri booth at SHOT Show 2019, and they all looked good. The Unity Tactical FAST Mounts are designed to really cover the bases with regard to high-cheek-weld mounting optics and scopes, and they all work together really well.
When DR first laid eyes on the Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount, we immediately and reflexively thought of Knight’s Armament Company’s (KAC) and Redback One’s Jason Falla, who first converted us to the high-combat-optic-mount (or, high-mounted-combat optic) concept for tactical AR (AR-15) rifle/carbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) combatives, including dynamic CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat) and urban warfare ops. Falla makes a very strong argument that his way is the way to go for fighting with a rifle, and DR agrees with it, as it provides for a much more natural and relaxed head position and cheek weld, and allows the tactical operator/assaulter to “clear his gear”, as Lasky explains in DR’s video below.
The Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount not only high-mounts any Aimpoint Micro-footprint optic for you, but also integrates a rear back-up iron sight (BUIS) into the mount itself, thus cleaning/clearing up your fighting rifle’s real estate a bit. It’s also very well-thought-out and designed with regard to the actual mount height. “What we’re doing here is basically raising the optic up. We have a 2.26-to-centerline height, so it’s a quarter-inch taller than your standard lower-one-third (1/3rd) co-witness. Standard lower-1/3rd is a 1.93 above rail. So, what this is doing is it’s giving you the ability to clear more gear. In [US Military] Special Operations, we’ve been doing this for years, for decades, always having the optics higher-up because you’re always wearing your comms [combat/tactical communications gear], you’re always wearing a gas mask, or night vision, or some other type of gear that you need to be able to get a good stock weld, cheek weld, if you will…,” said Lasky (Watch DR’s video below to hear his full statement on it).
The Unity Tactical FAST FTC (Flip-To-Center) Aimpoint Mag (Magnifier) Mount is just as cool and interesting , since it’s really fast and intuitive to use, allowing the shooter/operator to quickly deploy/move into position, and then back out again, stowing it with the most minimal footprint possible. It’s a really slick design, and you can see Lasky demonstrate it in the video we shot below. But, here’s what Unity Tactical says about it:
FAST™ FTC Magnifier Mounts feature the first ever Flip-To-Center (FTC) mechanism (patent-pending), providing stowage completely within the footprint of the weapon’s receiver while not occluding the host optic’s sight picture at all. This provides the most optic capability with the lowest profile during all modes of operation. The revolutionary FTC function completely solves the problem posed by legacy flip-to-side magnifier mounts (when disengaged, the magnifier hangs off the side of the gun, creating a major snag hazard). FAST™ FTC Magnifier Mounts completely eliminate this danger and utilize a force-to-overcome mechanism for rapid transition. Designed for Aimpoint® Magnifiers (3XMag-1, 3X-C) and some other 30mm magnifiers.
It’s pretty sweet, so check it out. If you’re running a standard, non-magnified combat optic in an urban-warfare scenario, you need to also have a mgnifier mounted up for when the fight’s taken outdoors, and the engagement distances get a lot bigger, real quick.
In Defense Review’s video below, you can also see a prototype Unity Tactical FAST Scope Mount for “recce-rifle platforms” (in the white, as you can see in the video below). The new scope mount integrates a 45-degree-offset red-dot-sight combat optic mount for when the fighting gets real close. The Unity Tactical FAST Scope Mount height is optimized to work with the BE Meyers MAWL.
Lasky also mentioned the Unity Tactical FAST EOTech Riser to us, so you can check that one out, too.
