While we’re on the subject of Tactical Command Industries (TCI) headsets (tactical comms headsets, i.e., tactical communications headsets), we should perhaps also mention that Don Medine also showed DefenseReview (DR) the TCI TABC II Tactical Assault Dual-Comm Bone Conduction Headset (TABC-2 DC) during our booth visit at SHOT Show 2012. The TABC II was specifically designed for Special Operations Forces (SOF) use, and benefits from SOF personnel input and feedback. Like the Liberator III over-the-ear tactical headset suite/digital hearing protection system, the TCI TABC-II Dual Comm package is a secure dual-comm/dual-channel/dual-PTT button system. According to the TCI website, it “offers state of the art electronics, Binaural Dynamic Audio Resonance System “DARS” (our proprietary sound reproduction system that provides pristine audio fidelity directly to the Cochlea through bone conduction), and comfortable fit with MICH, ACH and other commonly used ballistic helmets. The package can also be configured according to a team’s mission profiles.”
Being an off-the-ear bone-conduction headset, the TCI TABC-II headset leaves the assaulter/operator’s ears open to pick up any/all ambient sounds, while conducting radio sound through the jawbone and auditory nerve.
Medine also showed us the night-vision (NV)/near-IR (infrared)-compatible TCI NVG Lip Light, which allows the operator to read using his night vision equipment/NVGs and locate small items he may have dropped. The color-selector feature allows the user to switch from NVG white to NVG green light, or put the Lip Light on “safe” for light discipline.
Finally, Medine showed us the TCI Tactical Throat Microphone Headset (TTMK-III), which is actually a dual-throat-mic headset, and the TCI Patrol II Dual-Comm Situational Awareness Headset System. The TTMK-III is a viable option for HALO (High-Altitude, Low-Opening) freefall parachute operations.
