In our previous article on the S&S Precision Plate Frame tactical armor plate carrier/military body armor system, we included a product demo video that included footage of the S&S Precision Shiv, which is a machined monolithic (one-piece) stainless-steel fixed-blade combat dagger. The Shiv is double-edged, since it’s a dagger and all, and sports circular lightening holes in the blade. The blade length appears to be approx. 5 inches (5″), but we haven’t confirmed it.
It’s a cool little item, so DefenseReview (DR) figured it deserved it’s own little piece. However, we have no idea how sharp it is, strong/durable it is, good it is, or any of that, since we didn’t test it–but it looks good and appears to be well-designed. Being a fixed blade and appearing to utilize a chisel grind (unconfirmed/unverified), it should be pretty strong, and machining a one-piece fixed-blade knife isn’t exactly rocket science, so we don’t really see how they could’ve gone wrong. It would take a special kind of idiot to screw up a steel dagger.
Defense Review would like to see a non-magnetic titanium version of the S&S Precision Shiv developed for U.S. Naval EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) and U.S. Naval Special Warfare (SPECWAR) underwater applications.
Anyway, you can see the company’s owner Drew Borland talking about it in the embedded video clip below:
