The day after DefenseReview (DR) ran the suppressed 300BLK (300 Blackout) SIG MCX multi-caliber assault SBR/PDW (Short Barreled Rifle/Personal Defense Weapon) at the SIG SAUER Academy range during SIG’s New Media Writers’ Event, we got the chance to put some (9mm) rounds through two versions of the SIG MPX multi-caliber submachine gun (SMG)/Personal Defense Weapon (PDW), including a suppressed MPX with prototype can (silencer/sound suppressor) and the ultra-short KeyMod machine pistol variant recently introduced to the world at NDIA SOFIC 2014, both of which ran without a hitch, albeit with an extremely high cyclic rate of fire (ROF). Being dual-piston/op-rod (push-type operating rod) gas-driven weapons in AR configuration with ambi controls (ambidextrous controls), the SIG MPX SMG/PDW out MP5’s the HK MP5 SMG. The MPX is a neat little SMG package, and it will soon be available in .40 S&W and .357 SIG calibers, as well.
The SIG MPX is the perfect SMG complement to the SIG MCX multi-caliber assault rifle/carbine/SBR, and will offer law enforcement personnel caliber compatibility with their duty pistols. The .357 SIG MPX should prove to be a particularly potent little SMG package, especially in the longer-barreled variant. With the excellent SIG SAUER suppressor attached and subsonic ammo, the MPX is ultra-quiet.

DR shot a whole bunch of videos of both SIG MPX variants being run on semi-auto and full-auto at the SIG SAUER Academy range, and we’d advise our readers to take a look at them, below the photos below.
