While DefenseReview (DR) was at SHOT Show 2012, Mack Gwinn Jr. of MGI Military showed us a prototype MGI Hydra modular 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51mm NATO)/.308 Win. tactical AR (AR-15) rifle/carbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) conversion kit with corresponding modular lower receiver with modular 7.62mm magwell and mag (magazine). The latter is a modified M14 mag.
In the embedded video below, you can see/hear Mr. Gwinn confirming that the MGI Hydra modular tactical AR weapon system’s locking block, receivers, and any/all other parts under stress can handle the energy/pressure and recoil of the 7.62mm NATO/.308 Win. and .50 Beowulf rifle cartridges.
Defense Review published detailed information back in 2006 on the MGI Hydra modular AR (modular AR-15) weapon system in a previous article so check it out.
