DefenseReview readers may remember that we wrote about the Smith & Wesson M&P pistol (standard-size 9mm/.40 S&W version) back in 2005. Well, DefenseReview recently got to handle the brand new Smith & Wesson M&P45 (S&W M&P45) .45 ACP pistol at SHOT Show 2007, which looks like a winner, provided it proves to be reliable, durable, and combat-accurate.
As it turns out out, Smith & Wesson has just introduced another group of M&P pistols, the M&P Compact Series, offered in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. All the guns in the M&P Compact Series utilize a shortened slide, barrel, and grip frame (including the dustcover). Smith & Wesson has essentiall optimized the M&P Compact Series pistols for concealed carry (CCW), and it will no-doubt compete against similar (and more established) offerings by…
Glock and Springfield Armory (XD Series pistols). The S&W M&P Compact pistol series’ frame is made from Zytel polymer, and is reinforced with a stainless steel chassis. The barrel and slide are both thru-hardened black melonite stainless steel. Specs on the S&W M&P9c are as follows: Barrel: 3.5 inches (3.5"), OA Length: 6.7 inches (6.7"), Weight: 21.7 ounces (21.7 oz), Capacity: 10+1 or 12+1
You can read about the S&W M&P Compact Series pistol in the latest issue of Guns & Ammo magazine (April 2007 Issue). It’s the cover gun.
Shooting USA also has information on the new compact pistol in its "New Product News" section.
