DefRev recently came across an excellent article on the 502 Thunder Sabre carbine in the July 2004 issue of "Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement". The article was written by Gary Paul Johnston.
The 502 Thunder Sabre carbine, developed and manufactured by Cloud Mountain Armory, is the newest entry into the rather exciting .50 Cal AR-15/M16-based weapons field. DefRev is guessing it’s designed to go up against the Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf and Leitner-Wise LW15.499 Mini-.50. You can read about the Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf in…
this previous DefRev story, titled "Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf. One Serious .499 Caliber Tactical Carbine." If you click on this link, it will take you to a previous DefRev story on the Leitner-Wise LW15.499 Mini-.50.
Let’s also not forget about the .458 SOCOM Weapons System by Teppo Jutsu, which is another contender in this dynamic field/category of weapons.
All of the above mentioned weapons provide an incredibly serious punch from an AR-15/M16 based weapon, and now fill an interesting new niche in the U.S. military Special Operations small arms arsenal.
DefRev hasn’t handled or fired the 502 Thunder Sabre yet, so we can’t render any opinions on it–but we’ll keep you posted.
By the way, I recently participated in a thread on the SpecialOperations.com Bulletin Boards. You can read the thread by clicking on this link. The thread is titled "Alexander Arms Beowulf .50". You might have to register on the forums first, in order to be able to read the thread. I’m not sure.
