Tactical Night Vision Company (TNVC) has really made a name for itself over the last few years, earning a reputation for making high-quality customized, mission-specific night vision monocular (NVM) and night vision goggle (NVG) systems for military Special Operations Forces (SOF) and general infantry forces. These systems usually take the form of retrofitted and ruggedized legacy monoculars and goggles. TNVC takes these systems and integrates/retrofits them into their own customized and ruggedized housings with upgraded/modular features for special missions. The TNVC Sentinel ruggedized NVG is one of the newest products in this vain. Kyle Harth of TNVC recently showed the Sentinel NVG to DefenseReview (DR) at the 2013 NDIA Special Operations Industry Conference (NDIA SOFIC 2013), and we were really impressed with its features and specs.

The TNVC Sentinel NVG System is essentially a ruggedized retrofit housing that can accept AN/AVS-6 or AN/AVS-9 (ANVIS-6/9) tubes that are extracted out of the aviation goggle (NVG). The Sentinel NVG housing/system is optimized for SOF assaulters/operators instead of pilots, although Special Operations pilots can certainly benefit from them, too. The following is what Harth communicated to DR about the Sentinel's advantages and attributes:

"So, what we do is we take a very fragile system that's designed for flight, and we put it in a ruggedized system that now adds waterproof capability, we have reinforcements on it…it also has its own integral batter source, so this system will power itself, whereas an AN/AVS goggle, or an aviation goggle, won't. It also has a single mount plate that's a standard dovetail, and we also offer it with the other mount plate. So, if you were wanting to power it with your ball-detent aviation-style battery pack, you can do that, and you can run it from either its own power source, or a backup power source on the back of the helmet.

Now, this system, because it does take MX-10160 tubes, the standard aviation tubes, this also gives you the ability…we can actually build this system for you in any configuration of tubes that you'd like. So, if you'd like to have ITT Pinnacle systems, if you'd like to have L3 Omni VIII's, if you'd like to even have filmless tubes in this system, we can build it to pretty much any configuration possible. To retrofit a system costs about $2800, and to actually build a system from scratch to your specifications will run anywhere between $7200 and $7800 [USD]. So, that's the Sentinel System."

Very cool. Defense Review highly recommends that military Spec-Operators looking for a high-quality ruggedized NVG take a very serious look at the TNVC Sentinel Night Vision Goggle System.
