Bushmaster Firearms, Inc. has a pretty neat tactical-config AR-15/M16-based rifle/carbine in .308 (7.62x51mm) caliber that deserves mention, called (appropriately enough) the Bushmaster .308 Rifle. Charles Cutshaw’s written an excellent article on it for the January 2005 issue of "Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement" (GWLE).
The Bushmaster .308 Rifle/Carbine was designed to take metric FAL magazines, which are high-quality, plentiful, and inexpensive. From Cutshaw’s article, the Bushmaster .308 Rifle/Carbine looks like a pretty sweet package, especially now that the Clinton Gun Ban, a.k.a. the "Assault Weapons Ban" has gone the way of the proverbial doe-doe. So, you can now outfit your Bushmaster .308 Rifle/Carbine with all the goodies/accoutrements that were previously (and inanely) disallowed, i.e. flash hiders/suppressors and telescoping/retractable buttstocks.
Here are just a few items that DefenseReview recommends for your Bushmaster .308 Rifle/Carbine:…
Flash Hiders/Suppressors:
Smith Enterprise Vortex Flash Hider
Bushmaster Phantom 5 Port Flash Suppressor
Bushmaster Phantom Closed Bottom Flash Suppressor
Bushmaster A2 Bird Cage Flash Suppressor
Telescoping/Retractable Buttstocks:
Vltor Weapon Systems Modular Firearm Buttstock (Modstock)
Magpul Industries Corp. Modular Stock System (MSS)
Lewis Machine and Tool (LMT) Crane NSWC/SOPMOD Buttstock.
DefenseReview also highly recommends outfitting your Bushmaster .308 Rifle/Carbine with either one of the following optical gunsights:
EOTech 552 Holographic Weapons Sight (HWS)/Holographic Diffraction Sight
or
Aimpoint CompM2 Red Dot Sight.
Both sights are terrific, and will help you get on target, fast. Trust us. They’re both top notch.
