Tactical Design Labs (TDL) was at TREXPO West 2004 introducing and demonstrating their unique LEO (law enforcement officer) duty holster, called "The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster". What sets The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster apart from other duty holsters is its unique (and I’m assuming, patented) retention system that’s at once super-secure, yet still permissive a very fast draw. Tactical Design Labs (TDL) bills the new holster as "revolutionary".
Mike Lowe is the founder of Tactical Design Labs (TDL), and the designer/developer of The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster. He’s also a Defensive Tactics Trainer and Weapons Control Trainer, and former LEO (21 years on the job). Basically, Mike got sick and tired of watching…
police officers get shot, and sometimes murdered, with their own duty weapons. So, he set out to do something about it. That’s how Tactical Design Labs (TDL) and The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster came about.
DefRev got the chance to try out the new holster at TREXPO West 2004, and came away very impressed with it. The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster’s proprietary retention/security mechanism is simple, yet ingenious. If a perp/hostile subject doesn’t know how the mechanism works, he/she most likely has little to no chance of getting the LEO’s duty weapon out of the holster. That gun just isn’t comin’ out. The LEO, on the other hand, can draw the weapon fast and easy. Time and street feedback will tell if this holds true when the LEO is put under stress.
DefRev, of course, can’t discuss how the holster’s mechanism works. We will say it’s a pretty slick system. You have to try it, to see what we mean.
Tactical Design Labs (TDL) has an IWB (inside-the-waistband) concealment holster that’s still in development. DefRev looks forward to getting our hands on one of the prototypes, as soon as we can.
By the way, The Professional Real Performance Duty Holster is made from injection-molded polymer.
